Requiem for Whitman features the opulent a cappella Messa di Requiem by Ildebrando Pizzetti. The requiem offers the full range of emotion with sections for double choir, lush harmonies, and an evocative setting of the “Dies irae” Gregorian chant. A three-movement work by William Schuman, a newly commissioned work by Douglas Geers, and J.S. Bach’s funeral motet complete the opening concert for the Dessoff Choirs.
